Dear Parents,
This has been a busy and successful week. Yesterday we had our Chusok Festival, and despite the rain the students had a wonderful time making songpyun and playing the many folk games. Thank you to all the mothers who helped with the games.
Today, we finally had our International Food and Culture Festival. I’m happy to say it was a success and that all students enjoyed the cooking experience. We cooked Italian spaghetti and meatballs with garlic toast. The food was delicious! Thanks again to all the mothers who brought in the cooking equipment and helped. You have really had two busy days helping class 3-1, and Mrs. Choi, the students, and myself are lucky to have such great moms.^^ I have uploaded some pictures of the events to our class website at www.3-1kisq.blogspot.com
Because of last week’s dangerous “typhoon,” I did not make a Daily English or Weekly Spelling test for this week (two tests is too much to study for in one week). I will include a list of study items for next week however.
For the Golden Week, I have told the students about some optional homework that they can complete if they have time. Many students will be busy going to Korea or traveling, so this homework is not mandatory. Students who do complete this homework will receive 5 stickers.
The project I would like them to complete is called a “diorama.” This is a 3D (three dimensional) miniature model inside a box depicting a scene of the student’s choice. I have informed the students how to do this, and will put some information here so parents can help.
Here are examples:
The box can be of any size, but a shoe box is best. The front of the box can be completely open, or have just a “peep hole” that people can look through to see the inside. If it is dark inside, a window can be put on the top of the box to allow light to come inside. Students can use toys, paper, dolls, or anything they can think of to put inside. They may choose any scene to depict. Some ideas included dinosaurs, animals, a house, aliens, or even Rome in Italy as the picture above shows. I hope this is a fun project to keep them busy when they are bored next week.
Now, to update about what we did this week and what we will do next week.
Reading
We finished reading “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss. This is a famous children’s book that rhymes as a poem. Students are welcome to take these books home but they must return them within a few days in good condition.
English with Mr. Bean
This week we studied the episode “The Bottle.” The video and question sheets are available on the class website if you wish to review them.
Science
This week we didn’t study science due to being busy, but soon we will have a small test.
Megaflash
This week’s busy schedule and problems caused by the “typhoon” made it impractical to have the test this week. After vacation we will have it.
Oral
The students wrote their own dialogues with partners this week and practiced and performed them in front of the class. This is a fun activity we will do more of.
Now here is the spelling list for next week.
