Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Guess what students! I gave you the wrong spelling of this word! Can you find the difference? I'm really sorry I told you the wrong spelling. Because I told you the wrong spelling, we have to have this word again in our Weekly Spelling List. I'm really really really sorry.;)
Now....what does supercalifragilisticexpialidocious mean? When I "Googled" it, this is what I found:
This word came from the movie "Mary Poppins." It was made in 1964. It was used in a song when Mary Poppins talks to some news reporters who want to ask her questions about a horse race. There are too many reporters and they are bothering her, so she uses this word and says it is magical. If you are in a bad mood and want to feel happy, just say it! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! If you feel confused, or are scared, or are really frustrated, just say it! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! If something is really amazing, fantastic, and wonderful....it is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! It has many meanings.
Because the movie "Mary Poppins" was so popular, the word became an adjective used by both children and adults. It is still popular many years later, mostly because of the song. Here are the lyrics to that song. Sing it fast!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You'll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Because I was afraid to speak when I was just a lad
My father gave me nose a tweak And told me I was bad
But then one day I learned a word That saved me aching nose
The biggest word I ever heard And this is how it goes:
Oh, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You'll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
So when the cat has got your tongue
There's no need for dismay
Just summon up this word And then you've got a lot to say
But better use it carefully Or it may change your life
One night I said it to me girl
And now me girl's my wife!
She's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
